Pulse Metric Scientists to Participate in 1st International Symposium On Non-Invasive Hemodynamic Monitoring

SAN DIEGO, CA - - Pulse Metric scientists and affiliated researchers will participate in the first annual Taiwanese-American Combined Conference on Non-invasive Hemodynamic Monitoring, scheduled for July 21, at the Grand Hotel, Taipei, Taiwan.

The one-day program will include 18 presentations examining non-invasive cardiovascular assessment techniques, including Pulse Metric’s patented DynaPulse waveform recording and analysis system. Presenters will include experts from Pulse Metric, the University of California at San Diego (UCSD), Tulane Medical Center, the University of Pittsburgh, as well as researchers from the National Taiwan University. The symposium chairperson is Professor Y. T. Lee, Superintendent of the National Taiwan University Hospital.

“We are pleased to provide a leadership role in this important conference,” said Shiu-Shin Chio, Ph.D., Pulse Metric’s Chief Executive Officer. “Our goal is to examine the current state of the art in non-invasive hemodynamics and to explore ways to expand its application worldwide.”

Dr. Chio will address the conference on his patented waveform analysis system which calculates cardiac output, arterial compliance and systemic vascular resistance from arterial pressure waveforms recorded in the physician’s office using a simple upper arm cuff.

Additionally, Anthony DeMaria, M.D., Professor of Medicine at UCSD and incoming editor of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology will present a session on trends in echocardiography. Elaine Urbina, M.D., a researcher with the Bogalusa Heart Study at Tulane, will review findings concerning the identification of early cardiac risk factors in young, healthy persons using DynaPulse technology. Kim Sutten-Tyrrell, M.D., a researcher with the University of Pittsburgh, will address the use of pulse wave velocity in determining arterial stiffness.

Other sessions will cover:

· the use of radial tonometry in estimating central aortic pressures;
· non-invasive cardiac output measurements vs. stress echocardiography;
· changes in circadian blood pressure and arterial compliance in white coat hypertension; and
· a review of recent patient case histories involving DynaPulse non-invasive hemodynamic monitoring systems.

Founded in 1990, Pulse Metric is a San Diego-based company that is committed to the widespread clinical application of its easy-to-use cardiovascular monitors and proprietary waveform analysis methods to advance the treatment and management of heart failure and related cardiovascular diseases.
