Clinical Research Applications

Drug Efficacy

Clients: Pharmaceutical drug manufacturers demonstrating drug efficacy through all phases of clinical trials may be interested in acquiring data such as but not limited to arterial compliance data in addition to blood pressure data.

Clinical Relevance: Hypertension has been significantly correlated with decreased arterial compliance (increase of stiffness), thereby increasing cardiac load and resistance in circulation. A drug that increases arterial compliance while controlling blood pressure may be more effective than drugs that decrease blood pressure only.

Target End-Organ Damage

Clients: Research scientists or clinicians investigating the relationship between organ damage and various disease states may be interested in acquiring arterial compliance, contractility, and resistance measurements in addition to blood pressure data.

Clinical Relevance: Hypertension and other disease states have been associated with damage to vital organs. By examining cardiovascular parameters obtained simultaneously, investigators may obtain a clearer understanding of the mechanisms behind target end-organ damage.

Cardiovascular Epidemiology

Clients: Research scientists or clinicians investigating cardiovascular disease with large-scale studies may be interested in measuring other cardiovascular parameters in addition to blood pressure.

Clinical Relevance: Cardiovascular disease is the focus of many epidemiological studies. By examining many cardiovascular parameters obtained simultaneously, investigators may obtain a clearer understanding of the mechanisms behind cardiovascular disease.

Hypertension in Pregnancy

Clients: Research scientists or clinicians investigating characteristics of hypertension in pregnancy may be interested in acquiring data of other cardiovascular parameters in addition to blood pressure.

Clinical Relevance: Possible structural changes in the maternal cardiovascular system may provide insight into the etiology of various hypertension disorders in pregnancy.

Cardiovascular Function During Dialysis

Clients: Research scientists investigating the effects of hemodialysis on cardiovascular performance may be interested in monitoring dialysis patients with cardiovascular problems or undergoing different treatments.

Clinical Relevance: Monitoring blood pressure along with cardiovascular function is clinically significant in determining the effectiveness of dialysate concentrations and treatment. End-stage renal disease may cause certain cardiovascular abnormalities, which should be carefully monitored.
